It is located at the eastern end of the Mediterranean Sea. It is bordered to the west by Egypt, to the east by Syria and Jordan, and to the north by Lebanon. Its maritime plain is extremely fertile. The southern Negev region, which comprises almost half of the total area, is largely desert. The Jordan, the only major river, flows from the north through Lake Hule (Waters of Merom) and Lake Kinneret (also called the Sea of ​​Galilee or Sea of ​​Tiberias), and eventually enters the Dead Sea at 411 m (1,349 ft) below sea level, the lowest land elevation in the world.
